Presentation of Home Management Certificates - June 21
A big 'thank you' to the residents who attended and to the facilitators including Eileen De Flores, Fiona Kelly, Clodagh and Adrienne Lynam.

Wordprocessing Classes - June 21
Brendan Smith of the DERI Institute of Galway University will tutor on a Wordprocessing course for three consecutive Thursdays commencing on June 21st.
Classes will commence at 4pm daily and will take place in the Eglinton Computer Room.

Cinema Trip - June 24
A Sunday Family excursion is being organised by Adrienne Lynam to the EYE Cinema, Wellpark, Monivea Road.

Stretch 'n' Grow for Children - June
Adrienne Lynam is organising a 'Stretch n Grow' class for 3 - 5 year old to
be held in the Preschool one day for an hour in the last week of June. She will also be
providing a number of free passes for 'Stretch n Grow' summer camps to be shared amongst
the children.

Children's Summer Camp- July 2 to 13
The enrolment forms for Summer Camps for children aged 6 - 12 years have
been sent off. Summer camps will be held from 10 - 1 for two week (Mon -
Fri) from 2nd - 13th July.




Family Trip to Ireland's National Aquarium - July 2

A trip to Atlantaquaria in Salthill has been arranged for next Monday,
2nd July at 4.00pm. It is free of charge to all residents (including children)

July (mid) - Stretch ´n´Grow: Physical Exercise Classes for 3-5 Year old Children
Adrienne has organised one week´s Physical Exercise Classes for 3-5 year old children living in the Eglinton for one week in mid-July.
The Stretch & Grow classes will take place in Scoil Einde on Threadneedle Road Salthill, only a few minutes walk from the Eglinton.
There are only a limited number of places available. So if you are interested, please immediately leave your name and details of your child as a message at the Eglinton reception marked for the attention of Carole Raftery

Volunteer Work Placement
Donncha Foley of the Galway Volunteer Centre will give a lecture at 7.30pm on Wednesday July 5th in the Eglinton Hotel on the opportunities available to people interested in volunteering to work with organisations and companies Galway city and county.

Sewing Classes- July
Mary McCarthy, the facilitator for sewing classes recently met with Eglinton residents. A lot of residents signed up. It has been decided to set up three groups with classes in dressmaking, sewing and knitting. These classes are due to start in approximately two - three weeks. Adrienne is compiling a proposal for funding for the necessary sewing machines.

Extra: Possible & Probably Summer Event
The Eglinton Residents' Support Committee are also working on the following initiatives:

  • Weekly Rota of in-house resident Supervisors for the hotel's exterior Children's Play area
  • Weekly Rota of in-house resident volunteers to supervise extra children computer classes in the hotel's Computer Room
  • Morning Cinema trip for parents with toddlers
  • Family Excursion trip to 'Monkey Business' Children's Play Centre.
  • Library Training - possible day of training in the a Galway City library for residents interested in maintaining the library in the hotel.
  • Cinema vouchers & swimming passes for teenagers
  • Possible PICNIC Day with food and circus events - suggested locations being dicussed include Salthill Park, Barna Woods or Renville Park.
